The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Storage Tank Section is seeking a friendly and motivated candidate to join our team as an Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Specialist in Topeka, KS. This is an entry-level opportunity that is ideal for individuals looking to start their career in the environmental field, as well as experienced professionals interested in transitioning into environmental compliance work. This position requires either a bachelor's degree in any field or at least two years of experience in the environmental field.
Key Responsibilities:
Acts as the lead compliance worker to get UST facilities back into compliance following the issuance of financial penalties. Depending on current workload, this position may not take on all the UST facilities that are being issued financial penalties. Instead, some of these facilities may be distributed to other compliance managers if the workload for this position is too high.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Provides consultation and technical assistance in UST program to the regulated public to interpret regulatory requirements and resolves common operational problems as necessary to facilitate compliance with storage tank regulations. Gives out accurate technical information through the mail and by telephone to regulated tank owners, licensed-contractors, district office personnel, and personnel from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The employee will also speak to public and professional groups concerning storage tank issues. Knowledge of the state and federal regulatory process is required.

Within the first year of employment, the incumbent must pass a physical exam that certifies the individual can work in the necessary protective gear.
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas. Applicants (including non-residents) who receive a formal job offer for a state job, are required to obtain a valid Tax Clearance within ten (10) days of the job offer. Tax Clearance can be obtained through the Kansas Department of Revenue who reviews individual accounts for compliance with Kansas Tax Law.
